My Poker Journey

Coaching

If you’ve read my about me page, then you know that when I decided that I wanted to make a living playing poker, I was only good by recreational player standards. I didn’t know what EV or ICM were, and rakeback sounded like an Autumn-related injury to me. A lot has changed in that time, and it hasn’t even been a year. Now I play poker full time, and make more $/week in rakeback alone than any of my friends do from their day jobs. Because I’ve learned so much so fast, I think it makes me a excellent choice for beginners. I still remember what it was like starting out, and I understand how to explain complicated concepts in ways you will be able to understand.

Even if you don’t fancy yourself a beginner, I can bring your game to the next level by helping you with plugging leaks in your overall game strategy, proper bubble play, note taking strategies, choosing the right software and ahk scripts, mental preparation, dealing with variance, developing good ongoing study habits, and setting healthy goals. I moved up from $1 SNGs, through $2, $6.5, $11, $22, $33, $55, to where I’m at now $110+. I am confident that I can help you with whatever stake you’re at, and get you to whatever stake you want to be at.

I genuinely enjoy helping people succeed. The only thing I cannot teach you is the desire to learn. You need to be hungry, and you need to have disciple, maturity and dedication to grind your way up. If you have that, then I am confident that I can help you become a winner.

Rates for Coaching are as follows:

$25 first session special for new students (JULY ONLY)
$100 per session

Packages:

5 sessions for $400
3 sessions for $250
2 sessions for $175

4 Group Sessions for $60 (see below)

During these sessions, it’s your time and we can spend it however you like. We will use Skype and TeamViewer to share a screen and have live chat (you must have a mic.) If you’re unsure of how you want to spend your session, I recommend hand history reviews using a replayer. All you have to do is set aside hand history files from tournaments that you played that you would like me to go over with you. Early game spots are ok, but longer games will allow us to go over bubble play, and in the money play. A mix of games you cashed and games you bubbled is probably best. You can also just collect specific hands you want reviewed if you like. Other options are you play live and I’ll sweat you, we can go through spots in SNG Wiz together, I can play live and you can watch me, or pretty much anything your want.

It also helps to try to think of things that you might need help with, such as playing AT-AQ deep stacked, how to play pairs at different levels and positions, good note taking strategies, appropriate HUD configuration, Table Selection, raise sizing, or blind-vs-blind play (bvb.) I will teach you all these things, but if yuo know where you need the most help, then we can have a more immediate impact on your game.

Beginner special:
7 sessions for $500*

  1. 1) Basic Strategy Lecture and Hand History Review = I will explain the basic concepts and strategies for making money from SNGs. I will explain what is possible, and what to expect when embarking on a career as a grinder. I will then go over Hand Histories from games that I have played that illustrate the basic approach to SNGs and how to beat them.
  2. 2) Intro to HUDs = Using Team Viewer’s remote support feature, I will help you get either Hold’em Manager or Poker Tracker 3 downloaded and configured on your computer. We will set up your Hand history database, make sure your poker client is saving your hand histories, configure your HUD overlay for your poker client and make sure we have the proper stats displaying. You will then play a live session and I will show you how use the HUD in game to make better decisions, and how to take useful player notes.
  3. 3) Guide to SNG Wiz and ICM = Again, using Team Viewer’s remote support feature, I will download and set up SNG Wiz for you on your computer, and explain how to use it. We will pull up some of you hand histories and review them using SNG WIz. I will teach you not only how to operate the program, but how to use it effectively to improve as a player, and how to navigate to the information you want quickly. We will then finish the session by learning how to use SNG Wiz’s quiz feature to improve our game.
  4. 4) Your Hand History Review = Using what you’ve learned from the previous sessions, and from using the SNG Wiz quiz, you will play a live session of SNGs and pick one that you think you played well and we will review it together in a replayer while you explain to me your thought process on each hand. This will allow me to help you plug leaks, and help me assess where you are at in terms of your skill, and your approach to the game.
  5. 5) A Deeper look at ICM = Here we will really get down to the nuts and bolts of ICM calculations by taking some spots from Wiz and doing them out by hand. This will help you to understand how ICM works on a much deeper foundational level. This knowledge is essential to elevating your game beyond that of a beginner. Using our expanded understanding of ICM, we will take a closer look at some complicated spots I have collected that illustrate very important concepts that many high-volume regulars do not grasp. The concepts in this session illustrate the difference between a real expert, and just someone with a basic understanding and a positive ROI. You would be amazed at how many regulars at the $119 Turbos on Full Tilt do not understand these concepts, and it allows me to literally print money on their faces.
  6. 6) Powning the Bubble = Here we will review a hand history of mine from when I was making my climb across the mid-stakes. This particular game has some great spots that really illustrate how you can utilize the bubble to your advantage when you happen to be the chip leader and exploit your opponents desire to make the money to secure yourself the win. We’ll talk about when to pown and when not to pown, and also how to use a pwoning chip leader to your advantage if you’re unlucky enough to be the short stack on the bubble.
  7. 7) Student’s choice = I will play whatever stakes you like up to $119, and as many tables as you like, up to 12. You get to watch how it’s done, and get a look at what it’s like to play as a high stakes grinder. You’ll get to see how I table select, note take, arrange my tables, utilize my HUD, save spots for review, and most importantly, how I play in game. My only request is that you be good luck :)

*500 does not Include price of software. SNG Wiz is $99 and comes with a free 30 day free trial. Poker Tracker 3 is 89.99 and comes with a 60 day free trial. Hold’em Manager is $85, but does not have a full featured trial. Players only need either Poker Tracker 3 or Hold’em Manager. Players can use trials for SNG Wiz and Poker Tracker 3 for the purposes of this course, and make their own decisions about purchasing software when the product trials end. No payment info is needed to begin either trial.

The Beginner’s package is by far the best investment you can make if you’re looking to get started out on the right path to making money from SNGs. The skills you will learn will help you beat SNGs at any stake. $500 may seem like a chunk of change at the moment, but you’re getting an education that will help you make as much money as you want to make. All it depends on is how hard you choose to work at it and how much time you put in after your course is over. I had to learn all this information on my own, taking bits and pieces from a variety of sources. If I could have gotten to where I am today faster I would have paid thousands. Now I make 5k a month in rakeback and leaderboard bonuses alone. If $500 could have gotten me to this level even a month sooner it would have been so worth it.

Discount Group Coaching

For those of you who what coaching but simply do not have the money, I still would like to help you if I can. I know how it feels, because I started playing poker newly unemployed with about 45K in debt and a 600 bankroll. I know how much it sucks to be broke, believe me. In order to still provide coaching without hurting myself (since coaching takes me away from my hourly wage playing poker) I’ve decided to host discount group coaching sessions. Group Sessions will be $15 per week and will work like a study group. Each week a different player in the group will play a session or submit a hand history for review and I will analyze the game for the group. This should be fun and should open up some good discussion. You’ll also get to meet other aspiring poker players which will be helpful in your development as a player. It really helps having people to bounce hands off of on skype after you go out on a sick bubble and you’re feeling results oriented.

Due to the study group nature of these sessions, it will be charged as $60 monthly. You can pay weekly if you just want to check it out or you join mid-month or whatever, but if I have different people showing up every week it will be impossible to schedule. On the bright side, that’s 4 free sessions a year :) Group sessions will be held Tuesdays at 6pm once I have enough interested students. You may sign up for group sessions, using the form below.
